Program Associate

a full-time job opportunity with Mirror Image Arts

ABOUT MIRROR IMAGE ARTS

Mirror Image Arts is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization founded in 2008. Our passion and purpose is to DISRUPT the school to prison pipeline by Delivering Impactful Strategic Results Utilizing Participatory Theatre. We work for and with young people (ages 7-21) across Metro Denver. We center our work with underserved youth, many of who are dealing with the effects of complex trauma, in underserved and under-resourced areas. While our primary pursuit is supporting and empowering young people, we recognize we must also support the environments in which they spend much of their time. Therefore, we work in deep partnerships with like-minded leaders inside education and the youth legal system to ensure punitive practices are decreased while positive youth development, restorative justice, and trauma-informed care practices are increased.

Our priorities can be seen through our programs and practices:

  1. We employ Trusted Adults who are specifically trained to use theatre, trauma informed care/healing-centered engagement, and culturally responsive teaching practices to help young people find their value and potential through Social-Emotional Learning (SEL).
  2. We have 3 distinct programs – Your Voice (Theatre in Education), Restorative Theatre (Theatre in the Youth Legal System), and Rehearsal for Reality (Theatre for Professional Development). Specifics about our programs can be found here.

ABOUT THE POSITION
We are seeking a full-time Program Associate, part-time (24 hours/wk) Program Associate, and Contactor positions. These positions will report to the Program Manager.

Responsibilities will include serving as a theatre facilitator and performer for programs in education and youth legal system, devising new theatrical works, program development, partnership building and collaboration, supporting evaluation efforts, fundraising, and supporting the implementation of the strategic plan. This is an open-ended position with room for growth. To see the growth potential, check out our Strategic GrowthPlan here.

At Mirror Image Arts, we understand that we each have a different journey toward identifying and cultivating our unique gifts. We value culture fit and experience over degrees and accreditations. Tell us your story, demonstrate your accomplishments. We identify as practitioners. We learn through experience and by taking risks. We know failure, and we celebrate and empower the ability to come back stronger. We also consider it our responsibility to help equip you to move forward on your career path, and we offer professional development opportunities so you can achieve the growth you seek.

WHAT TO EXPECT

You will meaningfully contribute to the successful growth and sustainability of a radical grassroots nonprofit organization. We define radical as:

We are working hard to make the world a better place – a place where systemic oppression is addressed; where people (especially young people) feel valued, seen and heard; and where mental health and social emotional wellbeing are at the center of conversations for social change. Youʼll be instrumental in affecting our progress.

  • You will participate in an intentional work culture that promotes curiosity, freedom to fail – reflect/revisit and come back stronger, active listening, empathy, perspective-taking, responsible decision-making, and compassionate action.
  • You will work hard and stretch your capacity, but you will feel purposeful and proud, knowing that your efforts make a difference to real people in our local community.
  • You will feel a part of the larger picture. Our work culture is transparent, hope-fueled, and person-centered.

OUR CORE VALUES + ARTISTIC VISION

These values and practices are the cornerstones of our organizational culture:

  • Courage
  • Curiosity
  • Community-centric
  • Play

Throughout our Theatre and our Organization, we…

  • Listen deeply and come from a place of curiosity.
  • Seek to understand humanity by investigating intrinsic motivation and root cause. Amplify the voices of the oppressed.
  • Create physical and emotional environments that inspire dialogue.
  • Provide the “freedom to fail” – to make a bold choice, revise, and come back stronger. Collaborate with artists and non-arts organizations.
  • Reflect both the beauty and the complexity of society to open minds and hearts. Develop a physical, visual, and emotional memory to support intellectual concepts.
